The Big Yard Sale is a two-day sale of gently used student items (e.g., furniture, clothing, household items, etc.) collected by Rethink Waste staff and volunteers during move-out week. The first day presale is for UR employees and volunteers only, and a UR ID card or volunteer shirt is required for entry. Day 2 is open to the general public. Proceeds from the sale go to the Falls of the James chapter of the Sierra Club and Rethink Waste.

The Big Yard Sale aims to educate students about responsible waste reduction, to divert reusable items from the landfill, to provide these reusable items to the community at affordable prices, and to raise money for environmental organizations both on and off campus.

Please bring a reusable shopping bag for your items!

What You Can Buy

Items typically available at the Big Yard Sale include mini fridges, microwaves, chairs, small tables, lamps, bookcases, shelves, linens, clothes and shoes, office and art supplies, decor, cleaning supplies, electronics, kitchen items, and much more.

What You Can Donate

The Big Yard Sale collects gently used items in residence halls and apartment laundry rooms beginning in April/May each year. Students can also drop off donation items at the Spider Exchange anytime we're open!

Please do not donate items that are damaged or otherwise unusable.
